Certified statements of claim are returned to

the Commonwealth Treasury, Canberra, for transmission to

London through the High Commissioner for the United

Kingdom.

24. As a result of increased accounting and audit

duties consequent upon the fall of Hong Kong, the High

Commissioner for the United Kingdom with the sanction of

the secretary of state for the colonies authorised the

retention in the service of Mr. T.G. Stokes, S. C. & A.

staff, Hong Kong Government, on leave in Australia and

unable to return to the colony, for duty in the office of

the Finance Liaison officer.

Copies of Maintenance Allowance schedules from

the month of September, 1941 (Doms. off. Tel.814 dated 13.6.42) together with detailed statements of all other

payments from December, 1941 to March, 1942, have been

prepared from commonwealth Treasury audited schedules for

despatch to London and accompany this memorandum.

26. Original Treasury schedules as from september,

1941, together with supporting receipts are retained in

the office of the Finance Liaison officer.

27. statements of claims for April 1942 and

suceeding months will, when rendered by the Commonwealth

Treasury, be subject to the same procedure of audit and

copies of all supporting schedules will be forwarded to

the office of the High Commissioner for the United Kingdom

for transmission to London with the certified claim for

reimbursement.

In order that the colonial Office and Crown

Agents for the colonies may be fully acquainted with what

records are available from the accounting system of the
